Dirk Kuyt

Retired Dutch international Dirk Kuyt has said that he was gutted over his omission from the 2012Carabao Cup final clash with Welsh team Cardiff City. Dirk Kuyt reflected on the 2012 Carabao Cup final in his column with the Liverpool website just before the 2022 edition of the Carabao Cup final between the Reds and Premier League rivals Chelsea.

Dirk Kuyt stated that he knew that then Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish will leave him out of the 2012 Carabao Cup final as he had not played much football until that point andas the Dutchman predicted, he was left out of the starting line-up for the Cardiff City game. Kuyt was left on the bench for the whole game and 13 minutes of extra time before he was subbed on. The Dutchman played just 17 minutes as the 2012 Carabao Cup final went into penalties.
Liverpool missed their first two penalties, but still managed to win the shootout 3-2 at the expense of Cardiff City. Dirk Kuyt is a big fan of Liverpool attacker Diogo Jota and what he has achieved at the club since joining at the start of last season. Eyebrows were raised when Liverpool spent around €44.70m to sign Portugal international Jota from fellow Premier League team Wolverhampton Wanderers, but it has been money well spent for the Reds.

Jota was not a prolific goalscorer during his time at Wolves and a lot of people including Liverpool fans had reservations about his transfer. He has been able to put those doubts to bed with an attacking return of 27 goals and three assists in 58 games in all competitions. Former Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt has been impressed with the Portuguese player.

In his column on the Liverpool website at the end of last month, Dirk Kuyt praised Jota for his efficiency in front of goal even when he doesn’t play in his preferred centre forward position. According to him, he has made himself a regular source of goals at the club irrespective of his position in the Liverpool attack.

Liverpool fans feared the worst when star players Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane left the club to represent their respective countries at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Cameroon, but Jota has been able to step up to score crucial goals for the club especially in the Carabao Cup.

Jota was the star of the tie as Liverpool saw off North London club Arsenal in the semi-finals to book a final meeting with Chelsea at the end of this month.

In the first leg at Anfield, Jota was brought down by Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka on 24 minutes while through on goal and was given a red card as the Gunners finished their game with ten men. Despite the numerical advantage, Liverpool could only play a goalless draw with Arsenal. In the second leg, Jota stepped up with two goals either side of the interval to seal a 2-0 win in the second leg and a 2-0 aggregate win for his team.

The role that Dirk Kuyt played in the Dutch Eredivisie title win at Feyenoord during the 2016/17 season has been revealed. Former Feyenoordstar Gustavo Hamer talked about the role played by Kuyt in a chat with Dutch magazine Voetbal International. According to him, Dirk Kuyt played a bigger role than their manager, Giovanni Van Bronckhorst.

Van Bronckhorst was recently made the Rangers manager after Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard left the Scottish club to take up the vacant managerial role at Aston Villa. The Dutchman became the Rangers manager in November and he’s looking to guide the club to a second successive league title in the Scottish top flight. Van Bronckhorst was the Feyenoord manager from 2015 to 2019 and he won the league title during his managerial spell at the club.

46-year-old Van Bronckhorst took Feyenoord to the Dutch title during the 2016/17 season and Dirk Kuyt was the team captain.

Coventry City defensive midfielder Hamer was part of the Feyenoord squad that won the aforementioned league title and he’s adamant that Kuyt played a bigger role in taking them to the title than the manager as he stressed that he didn’t benefit much under Van Bronckhorst.

In his opinion, Dirk Kuyt made them champions due to the role he played on the way to the title. According to him, Van Bronckhorst did a great job as the Feyenoord manager but he didn’t benefit from him and that the presence of Dirk Kuyt was more beneficial to him.

Coventry City star Hamer said ex-Dutch international Kuyt was the glue that kept everything together as he was the motivator and the connector. Kuyt was the major reason they won the Dutch Eredivisie title as a result of the role he played in making sure that the team stayed together in unity.

Ex-Liverpool attacker Dirk Kuyt has praised the quality shown by English right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold whom he described as a dream player for the Reds. Dirk Kuyt talked about Trent Alexander-Arnold in an interview with the Liverpool website as he compared the 23-year-old defender with club legend Steven Gerrard whom he played with during his time at Anfield.

Dirk Kuyt told Trent that he has a similar delivery to former Liverpool skipper Gerrard who’s now the Aston Villa manager after he took the job last month. Since taking the Villa job, Gerrard has picked up three wins from four games and he has been able to lead his new club away from the relegation zone.

Kuyt is a big fan of Trent who’s a defender that plays like an attacker as revealed by the retired Dutch national team star. According to him, the Liverpool right-back is playing at an unbelievably high level at the moment and that with Mohamed Salah playing a little inside on the right side of the Liverpool attack, he has the opportunity to play higher up the pitch

On Trent’s delivery, Dirk Kuyt said that it’s a forward player’s dream and that his delivery is Gerrard-esque.The Dutchman said Gerrard passes the ball to wherever he wants it to go and that Trent is similar to the Liverpool legend.

Kuyt waxed lyrical about Trent shortly after he delivered two assists for Sadio Mane and substitute Takumi Minamino against North London side Arsenal when the two teams met at Anfield last month.His two assists propelled Liverpool to a 4-0 win at home to the Gunners. Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah are the other Liverpool goalscorers from the Arsenal game.

Trent has been one of the best fullbacks in the Premier League and he has one goal and seven assists in 13 games. In all competitions, he has two goals and seven assists in 16 matches.

Ex-Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt has drawn comparison between Mohamed Salah and Lionel Messi on the back of the sensational start from the Egyptian international. Dirk Kuyt was recently on Sky Sports News to talk about Salah and his impressive start to the new season in the colours of Liverpool. According to him, Salah is looking like Messi and that he’s scoring the most amazing goals.

Former Dutch national team player Dirk Kuyt then called on Liverpool players to do everything possible to hold on to the services of Salah who has less than two years on his Reds contract.

Dirk Kuyt made his debut for the Netherlands senior national team against lowly Liechtenstein in September 2004 and he went on to score 24 goals in 104 appearances. He benefited from the decision from Marco Van Basten to drop players like Patrick Kluivert and Roy Makaay. Dirk Kuyt was able to make his debut earlier due to that decision.

He became a regular in the Netherlands squad under Van Basten after his debut in 2004. Kuyt wore the number seven shirt always when he was in the national team apart from the UEFA Euro 2008 tournament where he wore the number 18 shirt. Liverpool will kick off their new English Premier League campaign with a trip to Carrow Road to take on Norwich City on the opening day of the new league season and the Reds will be hoping that they can start their season on the front foot and a high note. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that while those players who suffered injures have returned to fitness from their problems, the club’s medical team is working to ensure that they get the best care possible to avoid a recurrence of their injures.

Liverpool still have to make one or two major signings to bring them level to Champions Manchester City, according to the Reds former player, Dirk Kuyt. Liverpool impressed everyone in the world of football two seasons ago when they became a force in Europe and won the English Premier League title in the process.

The Reds, however, failed to continue last season where they stopped the previous one, and were very underwhelming with their performances on the pitch both in Europe and particularly in the Premier League.

Liverpool have already secured the signing of Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig but still need to find a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum as the midfielder has reportedly agreed a three-year contract with French Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain after failing to agree to the terms Liverpool offered in a new contract.

Kuyt says the club should sign top players and then they will be ready to challenge City next season for the league title.
