Galatasaray made a move to take the 29-year old midfielder Lucas Leiva away from Liverpool and seemed close to signing the Brazilian midfielder after they agreed terms with the Premier League side, with Lucas looking set to follow Dirk Kuyt from The Reds into Turkish Football.

Lucas Leiva started his career as a box-to-box midfielder at Gremio in Brazil where he won the Campeonato Gaucho in 2006 and 2007. In July 2007 he was signed by Liverpool, where he developed into one of the league's premier defensive midfielders.

Former Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt has signed a one-year contract extension with Dutch club Feyenoord that will see him stay until the end of the 2016-2017 season.

Dirk Kuyt has been impressive this season scoring 19 goals in 32 league games and has been rewarded with a new contract.

The former Liverpool player said that he is happy to be playing for another year with Feyenoord and that he will do everything he can in order to bring success to the team. He said that the whole squad was determined to have a good season, and they managed to win the Dutch Cup.
