Johan Cruyff once claimed that the most important player for the national team

Dutch legend Johan Cruyff once claimed that the most important player for the national team was not star players like Arjen Robben or Wesley Sneijder, but it was striker Dirk Kuyt.

The former Liverpool player often sacrificed his own statistics for the results of the team. He may not grab headlines often, but it was due to his presence that other players made headlines according toCruyff. Now approaching the end of his career, Kuyt recently moved back to Holland where it all began for him with Feyenoord. He’ll be hoping to make a huge impact at the club in what could be his final few seasons as a professional footballer.

Kuyt claims that he wants to win a trophy in this short period. The Dutch team had a very disappointing 2014-15 season after finishing outside the top three after a long time. The team had been one of the big games in the Dutch Eredivisie, but they finished only behind PSV, Ajax, and AZ Alkmaar. The presence of Kuyt is not expected to get Feyenoord back challenging for the title, but it will be a significant boost nonetheless. The player has been part of several Champions League teams in the past and his experience will be a major factor over the season.

"I'm coming home after the summer and I can't wait to play again in De Kuip. Feyenoord have always been a draw. We talked about a return when I left Liverpool but it didn't happen. One of the disappointing things from my first spell is that I never won a trophy. I certainly have the ambition to do that this time. Feyenoord's financially difficult period is behind it, and a very talented team has been put together,” said Kuyt upon his return to Dutch football from Fenerbahce.
