FEYENOORD NOT SURE OF VAN PERSIE

Reports in Holland say Feyenoord are not sure of star striker Robin van Persie. As the experiment with Dirk Kuyt paid off last term and with his retirement, many pointed to the former Arsenal and Manchester United man as the next rallying man.

The club director Martin van Geel is seeking to convince the Netherlands international to make the move from his Turkish base with Fenerbahce. However, reports say other members of the board are not sure it is the right move.

The board of the club is divided over the move though they know Van Persie would bring valuable contribution as an experienced player. Van Geel has reportedly spoken to the national team manager Dick Advocaat who spoke very well of the player if fully fit.

The main concern against Van Persie is his fitness issues. Bringing him to the Eredivisie would cost around €5 million. The player’s style of play and work rate are significantly different from that of Kuyt which the club was convinced as the best fit. Some board members opine that Van Persie would not offer significant boost to the club’s profile and squad when he comes in.

The all-time leading scorer for the country would ,a href="http://www.golaccio.com">cost €5 million in salary wages per annum. It is unknown if he would be willing for a pay cut in order to move to Rotterdam. His family who are just adjusting to life in Turkey would also be factored in. However, it presents the player a fine opportunity to revive his career, possibly win medals, possibly play in the World Cup and retire on a good note.

Van Persie’s son Shaqueel is expected to join Feyenoord’s academy this summer – this could help him decide to take the pay cut and see his career off on a good note but first there is the board.
