Dirk Kuytsays that he never expected Feyenoord only to have achieved Europa League qualification
Former Liverpool star Dirk Kuytsays that he never expected Feyenoord only to have achieved Europa League qualification for the upcoming campaign.
The Dutchman will be joining Feyenoord once his contract expires with Turkish club Fenerbahce. He has already announced the agreement with the Dutch club and the process of rejoining the former Dutch champions is expected to be a mere formality. Unlike in recent seasons whenKuyt has been used to playing in the Champions League, he will find a different set up at his former club. He represented Feyenoord from 2003 to 2006 before moving onto Liverpool.
After six seasons with the Merseyside outfit, he joined Fenerbahce for € 1 million in 2012. Since his move, he has quickly became a fan favourite at the club due to his endless work rate and quality.Kuyt may not have won many titles in his career, but he is keen to make a difference at Feyenoord nonetheless. The Dutch Eredivisie team struggled for form last season and they could only manage a fourth place finish – behind AZ Alkmaar. PSV Eindhoven managed to win the title with Ajax coming in a distant second place. A whopping 17 points separated the two teams. Furthermore, a shocking 29 points separated PSV and Feyenoord.
"I never expected that Feyenoord would get no European football. But on the other hand, I see a team with so much quality that I have great faith in the future. So I'm not talking about the last six or seven games because before that I could see Feyenoord playing games with the same players and a lot of promise.I'm convinced we can all do something beautiful together," said the striker, who has also expressed his desire to one-day return to Turkish club Fenerbahce. Kuyt has signed a one-year contract with the Dutch team.
