Dirk Kuyt claims that the club has become the laughing stock

Feyenoord striker Dirk Kuyt claims that the club has become the laughing stock of Dutch football after suffering the seventh consecutive defeat in the league.

They may have slipped to only sixth in the table, but the position could got significantly worse if this run continues. The dip in form is rather surprising considering that the club were looking like title favourites earlier in the season. They are now in a position not to afford any more dropped points.Kuyt is one of the experienced campaigners at Feyenoord, but he remains at a loss to explain why the club’s form has been so bad in 2016.

The latest loss came away from home against PEC Zwolle. The 3-1 result comes just a week after suffering a narrow 2-1 loss against Ajax. The only victory that the club has achieved in recent weeks is the narrow 1-0 extra time victory over Roda JC, who are incidentally the club’s next opponents in the league. This should give them enough confidence that they will be able to turn around the corner. The poor form means that manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s future at the club is in tatters. Despite being one of the oldest in the squad,Kuyt has come of this 13 goals in 23 appearances and is the leading goal scorer.

"As captain, I am tired of it [the constant defeats]. I can imagine others are also tired with the same results game after game. The media can blame whatever they want, but we have a group of players who simply must be able to compete. We are responsible for this. We have a fantastic coach who every week is doing everything possible to prepare for the contest. These series of results can only be blamed on the players. We're a laughing stock," said Kuyt.
