Fenerbahce forward Dirk Kuyt has rubbished recent rumors in the English press that has seen him linked with a move back to the Premier League with the likes of Fulham and newly promoted Cardiff City weighing up a bid for the Netherlands international.

Kuyt, who enjoyed an extended holiday before returning to pre-season training with the club in Turkey, tweeted that holidays are over for him and it is time that he put in the hard yards to regain the required fitness. He also added on that tweet that he really missed Fenerbahce and was also looking forward to meeting his friends and reconnecting with the fans once again.

He posted another tweet where he denied reports in Turkish media which had stated that he had spoken to Dutch radio and completely denied that he had done so. He went on to add that he had not spoken to any media outlet during the vacations.

Fenerbahce completed the signing of Dirk Kuyt from Premier League giants Liverpool last summer for just € 1 million after he was deemed surplus to requirements by new manager Brendan Rodgers and having signed a three year deal at the club, the Dutch international has rubbished claims that he is looking to move away.

The 32 year old’s three year contract with the club guarantees him € 2.85 million in basic fees per season as well as € 17,500 in performance related bonuses. He will have to take a pay cut anyway if he did move back to the Premier League with the two clubs being mentioned as his suitors not capable of paying so much to a player.
Dirk Kuyt played 54 matches for the Yellow Canaries last season and scored 17 goals and got 15 assists for the team as they won the Turkish Cup.

The agent of Dirk Kuyt, Rob Jansen, has made it clear that his client is not going to join Napoli this summer.

There were speculations that the newly appointed Napoli manager Rafa Benitez who was Kuyt’s boss at Liverpool wants to sign him again and the Dutch winger might move to Italy this summer. But, his agent has denied those speculations.
When asked about the reports of Kuyt joining Napoli, Jansen said, “I have no idea about Napoli’s interest in Dirk. They haven’t called me yet.”

“I don’t think Dirk is looking to join any other club this summer. He enjoyed his first season at Fenerbahce and he wants to stay there.”

At Liverpool, Kuyt played under the guidance of Rafa Benitez for 4 years before the latter left the club in June 2010.

Kuyt stayed at Liverpool for two more seasons before making a move to Turkey at the start of the last season. Fenerbahce bought him after paying a transfer fee of 1 million Euros.

Kuyt’s performance in his debut season for Fenerbahce wasn’t that bad. He did look rusty in a few games, but, overall, he did well. He featured for the Turkish club in a total of 31 games and found the net 8 times.

In one of his interviews at the end of the season, when Kuyt was asked if he is satisfied with his performance in his first season for Fenerbahce, he had said, “It would have been better if I had scored a few more goals. But, overall, it was not a bad season for me. I enjoyed a lot playing in Turkey.”

Fenerbahce finished at no. 2 in the 2012-13 Turkish Super Lig points table with 61 points in 34 games. They remained 10 points behind the title winners Galatasaray SK.

The Ivory Coast international striker Didier Drogba has said that Galatasaray have been extremely fortunate to get a 0-0 draw in the recent match against Anatolia.

Galatasaray have been on a seven match unbeaten run before this match, and they managed to extend the unbeaten run to 8 matches following this draw. However, the former Chelsea striker Drogba admitted that his team were lucky to come away with a point. Drogba has said that it was an extremely tough match especially after the Champions league exertions for Galatasaray. The Turkish club are currently top of the table with a seven-point advantage over the second placed Besiktas.

The club recently brought in the likes of Didier Drogba and Wesley Sneijder. They will be required to produce a great performance when Galatasaray take on Schalke in the second leg of the Champions League last 16 stage. Drogba has said that the team needs to work on several aspects if they are to be at their peak when they take on Schalke in a week’s time. Even though there have been suggestions that Galatasaray have been handed a relatively easy draw, Muslera said that there are no easy games in this tournament.

The 26-year-old, though, feels that his team has a slightly better capability of playing in the quarter-final stage of the competition because the two teams do not have a lot of difference. The home leg will be extremely crucial for Galatasaray in their hopes of progression. Despite qualifying into the knockout stages not as the group winners, Galatasaray have been handed a relatively easy draw. Their group stage opponents Manchester United, on the other hand, will be facing one of the toughest matches in the draw – Real Madrid. Galatasaray are currently top of the Turkish league with a three-point advantage.

“Our priority was to qualify from the group stage. We drew an easier team compared to the other teams like Barcelona. Of course it is still a hard game. But the teams are head-to-head I think,” said the 26-year-old Galatasaray goalkeeper. The first leg of the knockout stages will be played in the second week of February, while the return leg will be in the first week of March. Despite being relatively young, Muslera has been a first-team regular for Galatasaray and has made 16 appearances so far this campaign.

However, Liverpool were upbeat in the second half and they created a number of chances, with the most notable ones falling to Andy Carroll, but the former Newcastle United striker found Joe Hart in excellent form each time. “I think if you had said we would take four points from Chelsea away and City at home you would probably have signed up for it. In my opinion City have so far been the best team in the Premier League so we can take lots of positives from our performance,” said Dirk Kuyt.
