Dirk Kuyt confident after Winning against Utrecht

Feyenoord claimed the Dutch Cup after a 2-1 win over Utrecht in the final.

Striker and captain Dirk Kuyt is hoping that this victory is the start of a renaissance from the Dutch outfit. Feyenoord have struggled to challenge for the league title this season. Hence, there was more than usual attention on cup competitions like the Dutch Cup. Kuyt, who went through several seasons without winning a major honour at a Liverpool, has now been successful in each of his last five seasons. He is hoping that the Dutch outfit start challenge for trophies on a more regular basis including doing well in European competitions.

The Dutch outfit will not be able to take part in next season’s Champions League. They are 21 points behind PSV Eindhoven, who occupy the last Champions League qualification spot. PSV are fighting with Ajax for the league title. Feyenoord, however, will be looking to hold off the threat of AZ Alkmaar for the Europa League spot. As it stands, Feyenoord will be able to automatically qualify for the Europa League whereas AZ Alkmaar – who are one place behind – will have to go through qualifiers. Kuyt was happy that Feyenoord finally brought an end to the Dutch cup drought which has been going on since 2008.

Their last league title was back in 1999."This must now become a prize that starts a new phase for the club in which more trophies are won. I have won five trophies in five successive years. It feels tremendous and I want that feeling for all in the squad. From now onwards we are going to win more prizes. That is what a big club like Feyenoord deserves. I know it is not the ultimate prize that the supporters are hunkering for but we have to start somewhere,” said Kuyt.
