Daniel Sturridge is man to Watch - Dirk Kuyt

Former Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt is of the opinion that Daniel Sturridge is the man to watch for Liverpool in the next few weeks.

He says that the England international could actually help Liverpool win the Europa League. Sturridge played a key role in ensuring that Liverpool went past Villarreal in the semifinals of the competition. He may have played in only 14 matches this season, but a return of eight goals prove that he is the number-one forward at the club ahead of names like Christian Benteke, who have cost more.

Kuyt, now with the Dutch club Feyenoord where he started his career, says that Liverpool can lift only their second major trophy in the last decade when they take on Sevilla in the Europa League final. Jurgen Klopp has produced a massive revival at the club, as they were struggling to even get into the top half of the table until Brendan Rodgers in the first half of the season. Now, they have just reached the second final of the campaign and could very well qualify for the Champions League next season if they managed to see off the Spanish opponent. Winners of the Europa League reach the group stages of the Champions League directly as an incentive to promote competition.

“The Villarreal game was one of the best I have seen this season and they have a great chance to win it now. In the short term, it’s important to win silverware. If they win the Europa League it means Champions League football and that will give everyone an enormous boost. Also for the players who are coming, it’s very important that they play at the highest level. If they win this cup it will be easier to get the best players – that’s what we need,” said Kuyt.
